Thanks to Magic Bounce and Eject Button, Hatterene functions as a pivot on offensive teams that heavily benefit from keeping entry hazards off of their side. Healing Wish trades Hatterene in exchange for fully healing one of its teammates, allowing wallbreakers such as Baxcalibur, Kingambit, and Roaring Moon to effectively weaken the opposing team twice; Healing Wish has the added benefit of providing teammates with a free switch in and thus maximizing the turns field conditions such as Psychic Terrain, sun, and dual screens are active. Psychic and Dazzling Gleam are STAB moves that let Hatterene remain threatening against hazard setters such as Toxapex, Great Tusk, Clodsire, and Garchomp. Nuzzle punishes setup sweepers such as Volcarona and Dragonite that would otherwise set up in front of Hatterene. Alternatively, Mystical Fire lets Hatterene punish Steel-types such as Kingambit, Gholdengo, and Orthworm that try to switch into it while preventing the latter from using Shed Tail freely. Eject Button lets Hatterene sponge hits for its teammates and brings an offensive Pokemon safely onto the field. The Speed EVs allow Hatterene to outspeed Ting-Lu and paralyzed Adamant Dragonite, while the rest of its EVs are dedicated to its bulk. Tera Steel removes all of Hatterene's weaknesses which can, in turn, allow it to use Healing Wish in front of Pokemon that would otherwise directly threaten it such as Dragapult, Gholdengo, Kingambit, and Glimmora.
Healing Wish Hatterene finds a place on hyper offense, sun, and Psychic Terrain teams, which all enjoy Hatterene's ability to stop entry hazards from going up and breaking Focus Sash and severely chipping Pokemon weak to Stealth Rock while also keeping momentum thanks to Eject Button. As such, Pokemon usually seen on these archetypes like Dragonite, Ceruledge, Iron Moth, Roaring Moon, and Walking Wake, as well as Focus Sash users such as Breloom, Armarouge, and Polteageist, enjoy the presence of Hatterene. Offensive pivots such as Roaring Moon and Cinderace invite in defensive walls like Dondozo and Toxapex, against which Hatterene can use Healing Wish safely. Great Tusk can act as a secondary entry hazard control alongside Hatterene, preventing the latter from getting overwhelmed by repeating hits from entry hazards users like Ting-Lu, Garganacl, and opposing Great Tusk. Said support is particularly useful on sun teams as keeping Stealth Rock off the field allows for Torkoal to remain healthy and thus set up sun repeated timed throughout the game.
